Big Data & Resilience Webinar

This webinar explored: What are the links between Big Data and Resilience? What are the implications for resilience measurement practitioners?

Sustainable land management and climate resilience require innovative approaches to data management and analysis that allow users to draw connections across disciplines and scales. The widespread adoption of Information and Communication Technologies has been accompanied by a rapid emergence of Big Data, distributed computing, and machine learning which will enable new ways of analysing, visualizing and learning about resilience. Examining Big Data with a ‘resilience lens’ could help practitioners understand opportunities to enhance resilience programming.

This webinar examined the key challenges and opportunities emerging at the intersection of Big Data and resilience measurement, including the experience of Conservation International’s Resilience Atlas—an analytical tool designed to allow decision makers to prioritize adaptation and sustainable development interventions and investments based on data and scientific evidence from the entire socio-environmental system. The webinar also offered participants an opportunity to engage in a new collaborative initiative at the intersection of Big Data and resilience.
